At Harlington Upper School, we are immensely proud of our environmentally friendly work. It’s been fantastic to enjoy the tangible progress Harlington has made as we work towards achieving Eco-Schools accreditation, and this journey has been significantly strengthened by the invaluable collaboration and support from the Eco Forums and Let’s Go Zero. Their expertise and resources have been instrumental in driving meaningful change across several key areas within our school.
Lowering our Climate Impact
We are always working hard to lower our carbon footprint year-upon-year. We have achieved this with a number of actions such as:
- Motion and movement sensors to turn off lights after a given time
- Network settings which create eco sleep mode across the day on our desktop and classroom projectors
- LED lighting across the school
- Waste refuse and food waste recycling
- Reduction in the amount of plastic goods sold
- Water fountains and expectations toward refillable school drink bottles
- Controlled taps and heat settings to manage unnecessary power usage
- Promoting walking, cycling, school buses and lift sharing.
Climate Action Plan
We have a three year Climate Action Plan covering the following areas:
- Energy Use; including food, procurement, transport, food, waste
- Adaption and Resilience
- Nature, Culture and Curriculum; including green skills and careers
